One of the Topp Twins greatest strengths as entertainers is their ability to relate to ordinary people from all walks of life and create comedy from spontaneous situations. Before the advent of reality television, the Topp Twins TV Series broke new ground by taking their fictional comedy characters to sporting and cultural events, interacting with the public while also pursuing their own storylines. In this way, the Topp Twins paid homage to recognisable cultural icons while also sending them up. Farce and slapstick are blended with original songs, spontaneity and humour. Physical comedy comes naturally to the Topp Twins who will give anything a go. Nothing is too challenging for our intrepid adventurers, from racing a horse round the track to sashaying down the catwalk to the beat of Pacific drums, the Topp Twins reveal more by doing than in the telling of jokes or funny stories. The series, filmed on location all over New Zealand, celebrates kiwi kultcha and has seen the Topps characters become established as well-loved personalities many people believe actually exist. The Topp Twins TV Series won several New Zealand Film and TV Awards in 1997 and 1999 for Best Entertainment Performances.
